HKEX Promotes ESG Development as a Superconnector

As part of our ongoing efforts to promote ESG development and Hong Kong’s financial markets, HKEX joined data platform provider Wind for a webinar series last week to discuss Hong Kong and HKEX’s roles in championing ESG and green finance development in Asia.

HKEX Managing Director, Chief China Economist, Professor Ba Shusong, gave opening remarks on the ESG development roadmap in global capital markets, as well as introducing some of the ESG initiatives in Hong Kong. He noted that China's carbon-neutrality and emission-peak goals will bring immense opportunities to capital markets, providing an overview on the potential market size, policy framework and recent Mainland’s green finance and ESG investments, whilst explaining the differences between ESG standards in China and elsewhere.

Professor Ba noted that global exchanges now focus on four key areas to support the development of green and sustainable finance, namely: 1) development of green products and services, 2) promoting green financial markets, 3) strengthening ESG information disclosure, and 4) enhancing communications among stakeholders. Professor Ba also introduced HKEX’s role and its latest initiatives in promoting ESG, green finance and sustainability in Asia. 

Other HKEX speakers at the conference include Ken Chiu, Senior Vice President of Emerging Business Development, and William Li, Vice President of Equity Derivatives Development, who shared the latest development and opportunities in Hong Kong’s exchange traded products market, equity derivatives market and green and sustainable finance.

HKEX earlier hosted its 2022 Corporate Day and shared its vision to be the Marketplace of the future by focusing on three strategic pillars: Connecting China and the World, Connecting Capital and Opportunities, and Connecting Today with Tomorrow. HKEX is committed to playing an important role as a superconnector to drive the development of green finance and ESG investment in Asia.
